課程概述	探討土木工程的「科技」、「作業」及「結構」與人類文明生、死、興、衰的關係，進而討論土木工程與世界永續發展之功能。 Begin with discussions on the relationships between civil engineering (the technologies, operations, structures) and the rise-and-decay & life-and-death of civilizations in history。Thus, discussions can then be lead to the function of civil engineering in sustainable development of the world.
課程目標	使學生了解：「自然」、「文明」與「土木工程」的定義與範疇；土木工程與古文明的生、死關鍵；土木工程與自然的衝突、和諧之道；土木工程與城市發展；土木工程科技與世界的永續發展。並且由學生從事：一件土木工程的實地調查，開發個人的第一手知識。 Enable the students to learn the definition and categories of Nature，Civilization，and Civil Engineering； civil engineering and the life-and-death of lost civilizations； the conflict and the harmony between civil engineering and nature； the role of civil engineering in the development of cities； the role of civil engineering technologies in sustainable development of the world。 And enable the students to develop first-hand knowledge through the field study of a civil engineering work。
課程要求	就上述主題中之(1)或(4)至(14)之中，任選一個主題，以台灣或其他地區為例，從事實地調查或旅遊，撰寫一份報告。實地調查以兩位同學為一組為原則，旅遊以一位同學撰寫切合上述主題之個人報告為原則。 1.期末考 50% 2.實地調查與研究報告：50% 學生任選課程內容中相關的一個主題或跨越幾個主題，以台灣或鄰近地區為例(如已有其他遠地之經驗，亦歡迎)，從事實地調查，加以分析，撰寫一份報告，最遲於學校規定期末考時間二週前(含)繳交，於期末考前一週上課時間志願或由教師指定上台報告。原則上以兩位同學為一組。
